Juan is working with Spanish members and allies of FW building the local chapter of the #10YearsOn Campaign and preparing ground for the Change Finance Initiative, serving as a bridge between the EU and national level work. He also contributes with his expertise on financial consumer protection to the work of Finance Watch in this area.
Juan has been active in financial reform since 2008, when he joined ADICAE, the Spanish financial consumer association, in the wake of the financial crisis. This allowed him to gain direct knowledge of the struggles of over indebted consumers and misled investors: he truly believes that the advocacy work of Finance Watch vis-a-vis EU and national policymakers is essential to tackle financial industry abuse on citizens.
Juan has a long career in financial regulation and corporate governance policy making issues, advocating for consumer rights and the public interest. He is especially active in financial supervisory issues, serving his first term as a consumer representative at the ESMA Securities and Markets Stakeholder Group (SMSG) in Paris. He previously sat at the ESMA Investor Protection and Intermediaries Standing Committee CWG and is a former member of the European Commission Expert Group on automatic exchange of financial account information. Juan is a trained economist with a MA in European Economic Studies from the College of Europe in Brugge. He holds as well the Certificate in Law and Regulation of Inclusive Finance from the University of Luxembourg.
