Monica Calu
Monica Calu is an individual member of Finance Watch, and the co-founder of Consumers United/Consumatorii Uniți Association in Romania. Since 2018 she is a member of Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Groups at EIOPA and in Banking Stakeholder Group at European Banking Authority, representing consumers. Also, she is an individual expert at Financial Services User Group.
Particular areas of focus include the protection of vulnerable consumers, over indebtedness, financial inclusion, demographic changes, gender inequality, the impact of digitalisation, sustainability, and, in recent times, the impact and response to COVID-19 and the effects of war in Ukraine. Monica has over 15 years’ experience of working in consumer protection, financial regulation, law and policy, banking, credit and insurance supervision, and financial education.
She holds a degree in Economy from the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest, a degree in Law and a Master of International Relations and European Integration at the National School of Political and Administrative Studies in Bucharest.
