11 January 2017, Brussels – Finance Watch, the public interest advocacy group working to make finance serve society, announces the following appointment:

The Board of Directors has today appointed Benoît Lallemand, Finance Watch’s Head of Strategic Development and Operations, as Acting Secretary General, following the departure of the previous Secretary General, Christophe Nijdam.

Christophe Nijdam said:

“I have been proud of the work achieved by our association under my watch as Secretary General in 2015 and 2016, although the political momentum for financial regulation has drastically changed under that same period. This has led to a disagreement with the newly elected board of directors on the future strategy to undertake. Hence, my departure. I wish Finance Watch every success in continuing the important mission of making finance serve society.”

Finance Watch chair, Professor Rainer Lenz, said:

“Finance Watch is grateful to Christophe for his excellent work in the difficult environment that has characterized the last two years and wish him well with his future engagements.”

Finance Watch Acting Secretary General, Benoît Lallemand, said:

“Finance Watch has a busy programme for 2017 and some important new projects. I am excited to take on this role again and look forward to working with the team, Members and other stakeholders on the next phase of Finance Watch’s development.”
