Christophe Nijdam, Secretary General of Finance Watch, made the following comment on the European Commission’s Green Paper on retail financial services, which was published today:
“As an organisation representing citizens, we fully support calls from consumer organisations for stronger protection for the many millions of retail customers who use financial services in the European internal market. Today’s Green Paper is a welcome opportunity to help citizens better benefit from the single market. We recommend the Commission to take parallel initiatives to make sure that increased cross-border retail flows reduce concentration in the provision of financial services, improve the level playing field and reduce risk transfers to consumers. We look forward to responding to the consultation and we encourage others to do the same.”
